Atvir Dres: The Last Prince of Tear was recently featured in Svaalbard's Skyrim Mod Showcase, Issue #15. The review was very favorable, and will certainly do a lot to spread the word about our project. On behalf of the entire dev team, let me say THANK YOU to all of our fans and supporters, and particularly to Svaalbard and the enigmatic user who recommended that he try out AD!

As many of you already know, Atvir Dres: The Last Prince of Tear had its alpha release last Thursday. We're excited to have made it this far - but the job is far from over! Here's a quick breakdown of our plans for the next couple of updates (not necessarily in order of release):
-New skin for Atvir
-Custom weapons (sabre and double-bladed knife)
-Custom armour for Atvir
-Audio polishing on previous versions' voice files
-Custom hair (possible)
-Custom eyes (possible)
CONTENT UPDATE #1: ATVIR EXPANDED
-Quest: “A Friend of a Friend” added (with black market contact)
-“Read to me” dialogue option (number of books limited at this stage)
-“Did I ever tell you about the time” dialogue option expanded
-“Let’s talk about our other companions” dialogue option expanded
-Additional banter, combat, and greeting lines
-Tactical orders added
Bear in mind that this is not set in stone - some elements may be released sooner, or later, than listed. Also, this list does not account for quickfix updates, which will be uploaded to the Nexus regularly to address conflicts and errors that have been brought to our attention.
Last but definitely not least, I want to extend a warm welcome to Viltuska, the newest member of the AD dev team! Vil is the author behind the very successful (and sorely needed) Skyrim Sewers mod, available on the Nexus. He has volunteered his time and considerable talents to help us develop custom cells and dungeons for future content updates - so you can definitely look forwards to some quality dungeon crawling in the weeks and months ahead!

You read correctly, ladies and germs! The alpha release of Atvir Dres: The Last Prince of Tear is coming soon to a Skyrim Nexus near you!
I may have thrown around the word "soon" a little more than I should have in the past, so let me put it another way: the mod is already archived and uploaded to the Nexus (though we need to make a few last-minute decisions before we release it to the public). Are you excited? 'Cause I'm excited!
After the alpha release, we'll be focusing on putting together a cosmetic update that will include Atvir-specific weapons, armor, and skins (some elements of which we've shown here on the site) as well as additional dialogue polishing. We'll also be re-organizing ourselves to tackle the monumental task of putting together content updates, which will include extended questlines, and variable companionship dialogue dependent on the player's race and background.
If you're a modder who has released custom dungeons or similar modifications for TES games in the past, then we want you! Contact JanusForbeare through this site or the Nexus and we'll see about bringing you on board.

This afternoon I received a message from Emma, the renowned author of the legendary Oblivion mod "Companion Vilja" (which, of course, was the inspiration for "Atvir Dres"). Though she's in the middle of beta testing the CK, she generously took some time out of her busy schedule to share some advice with me regarding companion modifications. A brief quote from her message follows:
"Think through which one of these you want to make: a quest with a companion, or a companion with a quest. If the latter is your choice, avoid making permanent changes to Skyrim, like burning inns in Weye (which is what always keeps me from including Ruin in my game). If the quest is the most important, concentrate on that, and don't worry about changing Skyrim."
This comment related to making the modification as widely applicable and desirable as possible, and was a point well-taken by our design team. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have been able to benefit from the experience of such a successful modder and visionary, and her input is sure to be of great help to the project. Three cheers for Emma!
And to all you companion-collectors out there in mod-town, keep an eye on this lady, because she's heavily involved in the Skyrim modding community - and everything she touches turns to gold.

I felt that it was high time to release some new information on our current status, for those of you who are already following the project.
As many of you know, the CK (Construction Kit) is due to be released any day now. This will greatly enhance our modding capabilities and put us on the road towards an alpha release (currently anticipated for early April - though I have to stress that this is not set in stone). The features currently planned for the alpha release include:
This is not an exhaustive list, but should give you an idea of what we're aiming to achieve for our first release. Future updates will extend companion functionality and add new subquests, items, locations, and characters.
The script currently meets our needs for alpha, and recording sessions are scheduled to begin in the next couple of weeks. Work has begun on the meshes for Atvir's armour and is coming along nicely. Provided that Bethesda releases the CK on time and with full functionality, it's looking likely that Atvir will be coming to a cornerclub near you in the next couple of months!

Yesterday afternoon, hopventure of the Skyrim Nexus volunteered his talents as a 3D designer for Atvir's unique style of clothing and weaponry. As a professional graphic designer with an impressive portfolio and a passion for the work, he's certain to benefit this project in a BIG way. Let's hear it for hopventure!
As the Creation Kit's release date creeps ever nearer (finger crossed here), we'll be looking for skilled programmers to assist in scripting some of the new companionship features and quests included in this mod. If you have experience in CS/CK/GECK scripting and would like to make your mark on Tamriel by joining our team, use the "Contact Me" tab at the left of the screen or message JanusForbeare at the Skyrim Nexus!
